One of the pioneers of Usenet, Templeton founded Clairnet Communications Corporation in 1989. The corporation was one of the earliest Internet-based businesses. Heavily involved with the computer network since the late 1970s, Templeton has participated in the development of important innovations, such as the world’s first spreadsheet, VisiCalc.
Currently, Templeton works as a consultant on Google’s design team, specifically working on the development of self-driving cars. He serves on the board of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and is an esteemed writer and speaker on the topics of automated transportation and technology.
