Gordon is the President of the San Francisco Art Institute. As an institution and community builder Knox specializes in developing pragmatic and sustainable models for cultural and educational institutions, expanding their profile and impact while assembling a support structure to maintain their growth over the long-term. Active expansion of international engagement and impact are as key to Knox’s institutional advancement efforts as are the growth of networks and connections to regional audiences, community groups, cultural and educational institutions and industry in mutually supportive collaborations.
Knox’s work focuses on relocating the critical, disciplined investigation and knowledge production of art and art-making back to the core of social interpretation and problem-solving. His primary means of accomplishing this is by conceptualizing, developing and building educational and cultural institutions designed to energize and empower the next generation of artists as social agents while supporting global networks of first-rate thinkers, artists, educators and creative cultural practitioners of all sorts.
