Dr. David W. Blodgett is the Chief Scientist for the Research and Exploratory Development Department at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. In his role as Chief Scientist, he provides technical leadership across multi-disciplinary programs and groups in the 500+ person department to identify and promote technology development.
In addition to these technical leadership responsibilities, Dr. Blodgett is actively engaged in the development of next-generation optical sensors for operation in challenging environments in support of DARPA, IARPA, and other DoD sponsors. Specific research interests include the investigation of coherent optical techniques for the development of high-resolution imaging systems for neural signature detection, underwater imaging, vibration sensing, and optical phase control for multi-function sensor realization.
Dr. Blodgett earned a BSEE degree from Purdue University and Masters and Ph.D. in the Materials Science and Engineering Department from the Johns Hopkins University.
